The History

The development of the terminal at St Fergus in 1977 presented the challenge of creating a functional plant to produce gas - a vital resource for the UK economy - whilst protecting the unspoiled coastal and marine environment of the area. 


1977
  • First stage of the terminal was built to receive and process gas from the Frigg field
  • British Gas (now National Grid) built an adjacent terminal, to interface between the gas processing unit and the National Grid – for distribution throughout the UK
  • Frigg system came onstream
1987
  • Gas throughput from Alwyn field came onstream
1990
  • Commissioning of the Phase 3 (UK) plant
1991
  • Miller Transportation System came onstream (now in decommissioning phase)
1993
  • Gas throughput from Bruce came onstream via the Phase 3 plant
2005
  • Gas throughput from Rhum came onstream
