UK GREEN SCHOOL AWARDS

Inspiring young people

TOTAL actively supports and engages with local schools in the regions around the UK where it is present.  Our long history of involvement in education also extends to support for environmental initiatives.  The Green School Awards, organised by the Young People’s Trust for the Environment (YPTE), were launched in 2006 to encourage cross-curricular work on the environment in primary schools and stimulate interest in both conventional and alternative energy sources.

The Awards enable teachers to bring the environment into many areas of study across the national curriculum for England, Wales and Scotland.

Participating schools develop projects which compete for regional awards, with regional award winners then going on to a National Green School Awards final ceremony.   During school term 2009/2010, 264 schools engaged in this national initiative and simultaneous national final ceremonies were held in June 2010 at London Zoo and the Glasgow Science Centre.  The winning school, Pilling St John's Primary School, received a cash prize.  The Green School Awards will continue for a fifth year during school term 2010/11.  For more information please visit www.totalgreenschoolawards.com.
